State Fire School returns to campus this fall

October 6, 2009

BOWLING GREEN, O.–For more than three decades, firefighters have been coming to State Fire School at Bowling Green State University to get the most up-to-date, hands-on training.

That tradition continues this fall when State Fire School returns to the BGSU campus October 10–14. This session will prepare attendees with training in courses covering basic skills to advanced techniques.

The schedule for this fall includes ten classes, seven of which can be taken for academic credit, including Basic Fire Investigation, Advanced Fire Investigation and Fire Instructor Certification. New this year is a course in Advanced Fire Ground Search and Rescue.

A 36-hour Volunteer Firefighter Certification course is also on the schedule. The curriculum for this course includes fire behavior, ventilation, rescue, safety, fire hose and fire streams. The exam will be given and graded on October 14.

State Fire School also provides firefighters the opportunity to learn the administrative skills necessary to advance their careers in Fire Officer 1 and Fire Officer 2 courses, both conforming to NFPA standards. Fire Officer 1 includes a classroom portion during Fire School, and an online portion completed afterward.
