Nationwide scholarship recipient receives honor

June 23, 2008

A Trumbull County firefighter crosses a milestone... as she becomes the first female firefighter in the county to be promoted to Lieutenant. Cathy Riser was honored in Liberty tonight for her dedication to the community. She's been a firefighter for 5 years now. Riser says she became a firefighter in honor of her grandfather who was one of the first volunteer firefighters in Liberty back in the 40s.

"It's just another day on the job. We all do it. We all do it every day and now it's a title. A step in the right direction."

The Liberty fire chief says Cathy could make captain in the next few years if she keeps up her good work.

Riser attended State Fire School at Bowling Green State University and was the recipient of Nationwide Foundation scholarships in October and May 2007.
