Description For all firefighters, EMTs and industrial rescue personnel who have had previous basic or intermediate rope rescue training.
This class focuses on the basic hardware of rope rescue, as well as the principle-based knowledge that affords the rescuer the versatility and flexibility to safely accomplish diverse rescue tasks. To help minimize risk and provide a sound load ratio that enables the rescue technician to establish adequate safety factors, a close look at various rope rescue systems and an evaluation of any proposed rope rescue system will be taken. You will be able to assess your own belay techniques during simulated two-person load drops, acquire a better understanding of load amplification by rigging extreme high lines with instrumentation as well as review pulley systems and vertical skills. Training will be conducted at the BGSU football stadium, the Bowling Green water tower, BGSU Offenhauer Tower and the Vertical Reality Training Facility at Gilboa Stone Quarry in Ottawa, Ohio. Special Requirements You must supply a fit for duty form with chief's signature. Helmets, gloves, old clothing or coveralls and hiking style boots with good ankle support are required.
